Garden Wedding | Encinitas

Real Wedding Encinitas Garden

Check out this backyard wedding in Encinitas, California. Not lacking in in style at all. The couple let me do my thing in documenting the day naturally, without getting involved in much beyond the portraits. With that in mind I set about mooching about all day long with my camera. Taking pictures without following a "shot list" is just way more natural than following the script. It allows me to go where the energy is and shoot for genuine moments between people, as well as capture the still life details of the wedding day and the home in general.

Those greens are amazing don't you think. It was a warm with an overcast sky which made the whole garden one big softbox for me (photographer talk for good soft light). The inside was much of the same, stunning craftsman house with painted white wall to give the home a fresh and clean look. It's really hard to imagine a better venue than a well styled home like this. You can play the music until the cops come, like they did here. You're not limited by which vendors you have to pick from and best of all you ain't got those gastly neon exit signs and fire extinguishers scattered about the place. Mind you, to be fair most of the venue I photograph don't have that stuff, but in comparison to  a hotel kinda vibe, this wins hands down.

I see my self as an indie wedding photographer. Sure I make my living shooting weddings but I just don't really see myself as one. Maybe it's because I don't follow the script and I tend to shoot more like a street photographer than a cheesy wedding photographer. I really can't think of anything worse than being your typical run of the mill "wedding photographer for hire", shooting all that utter nonsense and not bringing anything new to the table ever, merely following what everyone else is doing in the wedding photography industry. Or perhaps its the fact that I can't stand to look at your typical wedding photographers work, I get kinda queasy when I do. I know I can write this now, because many of you feel what I'm saying and want something different, something raw and genuine.

Pioneertown Wedding

Check out this couple's Pioneertown Wedding, in the middle of the high desert. From the city and all that rush, JJ & Alexis opted to avoid a City wedding venue and instead decided to plan their wedding in the middle of the Desert, at a small place called Le Haut Desert Aerie which is itself a dirt road away from Pioneertown. Pioneertown if you didn’t know is a tiny little western movie set, it’s also home to famous Pappy and Harriets Music venue. Pioneertown and the high Desert area around Joshua Tree has long been a desert dwell for creatives and adventure seekers. JJ & Alexis fall into this category, for instance we went on on a road trip from OC-SD-The Sand Dunes and back, all for some adventure and a collection of epic images of course. I fell in love with this place after taking a detour whilst visiting Joshua Tree last year. I knew I had to have a Pioneertown Wedding in my portfolio and so when JJ & Alexis told me about their plans I was pretty stoked to say the least. Laid back and fun loving with like minded friends and family, this wedding was of the chart fun. Partying in Pioneertown or the desert is bloody marvelous anyway, but when you have all your friends and family partying with you it’s even better. These guys knew how to party that’s for sure. Perfect daytime weather, hot but manageable, just how I like it really, and the nighttime was bliss, under the stars and all. This Pioneertown Wedding was at Le Haut Desert Aerie, an Art/Hippy kinda place with welcoming vibes and Art all around, not just in the beauty that surrounds the place but the residence Art with covers the Walls and environments. Some pretty cool glamping tents that I wish I could have stayed in myself, darn! You must check it out, if you’re looking at having a Pioneertown Wedding yourself.
